Highly Capable Program Referrals
The district is currently accepting referrals for students to test this spring for qualification into next year's (2015-16) highly capable (gifted) programs. The Cognitive Abilities test, along with academic achievement measures in math and reading, are used to identify students who may benefit from this program. Parent permission is required for testing -- please see referral form for details. Students in 4th grade or above that have already qualified as highly capable do not need to retest. For more information about the highly capable program visit our website.
If you are interested in referring a student for testing this spring, please complete the referral form and turn it in to your child's school no later than January 30th.
Preparing for Inclement Weather and School Closures
To All Staff and Parents:
Soon the fall/winter storm season will be upon us. We have provided information to assist staff and parents with Peninsula School District’s procedures and expectations during inclement weather and school closures. Below you will find guidelines to help you understand how weather decisions are made.
New Student Registration
Welcome to Voyager! If you want to register your child at any time during the 2014-15 school year, you are invited to come by the Voyager office to get registration materials. You can fill them out at school or take them home to complete and then return them to school. Once registered, we will determine a start date for your child. Unless there is an unusual circumstance, we are generally able to start students within a day or two of their registration.
You can get a start on the registration process by going to the district website (either go to the district website at http://www.psd401.net, then go to Family -> New Student Registration or go directly to http://www.psd401.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=223&Itemid=722).
We look forward to meeting you and your family!
School Hours and Attendance
Elementary schools in the Peninsula School District start class at 9:00am and are dismissed at 3:30pm. Students at Voyager are encouraged to ride the bus to ensure a timely arrival and departure. If you drive your child, please arrive between 8:40-8:50am and wait until after 3:30pm to collect your child. In the morning, students are asked to wait in the front hall until 8:50am, and at that time, they may go to class. Kindergarteners attend the entire day, but have a four-day week; Monday-Thursday.
On Wednesdays (except Sept. 3 and Oct. 15), there is a one-hour late-start, so school starts at 10:00am. Buses run on their regular routes and arrive at morning stops one hour later than their normal pick-up time. Dismissal time is the same - 3:30pm.
This year we are going to stress attendance, on-time arrivals and staying until the end of the day. We understand that there are times when appointments will fall during school time, but ask that other disruptions be minimized. Parents can help:
- Make on-time arrivals a priority. This teaches your child respect for school time and gives your child the best start to the day.
- Unless your child has an appointment, do not pick your child up early.
- Schedule vacations during school breaks.
Changes in the schedule are published in advance in our newsletter, the Stargazer. If you have questions, do not hesitate to give the office a call at 253.530.4800.
